Meet Chucky, Our Tiny Escape Artist

Meet Chucky, Our Tiny Escape Artist

As soon as I opened his enclosure, he escaped for the second time that week.

When you own a lot of animals, you never know what you’re going to blog about. Then something happens and I’m like, yes, I need to talk about this! Before I get the chance, something else happens. It can be hard to keep up sometimes, and I’m sure I’ll get it all blogged eventually. Today, though, I’m going to tell you about another escape artist.

This one does not just disappear. He is lightning fast, climbs walls, and can squeeze into the tiniest spots.

Everyone, meet Chucky, our Gold Dust Day Gecko. Before we got him from one of our local pet stores, Northwest Seed & Pet, he had escaped there too. They did not think they would ever find him, but one day they spotted him and were able to grab him. They warned me that he was quick, and they were not kidding. Haha!

Chucky is not as big as a Giant Day Gecko, but he is still a good size. You would think that would make him easy to find in his enclosure, but nope. I rarely see him unless I sit very still in my reptile room and wait for him to run across the front of his enclosure so fast that I barely get a look at him.

The fun thing about day geckos is right there in their name. They are active during the day, unlike many other types of geckos that do not come out until nighttime. Chucky is definitely a watch only, not hold, kind of pet. He will not let you hold him. He will run, you will spend the next three hours trying to catch him, and you will become convinced that you have lost him for good. Then your daughter will find him, you will lose him again, and eventually you will FINALLY catch him.

He has escaped three times since we brought him home, and somehow two of those escapes happened in the same week. My daughter had to help me catch him, and by the end we were both sweating. The reptile room is definitely not one of the cooler rooms in the house, so chasing a lightning fast gecko around in there was a full workout!

This time, all I did was open his enclosure to mist inside, which I do twice a day. Before I had even finished opening it, he was out, running across the top of the enclosure, and jumping onto the wall. All you can do in that moment is stand there and take the biggest deep breath ever. Haha!

Anyway, he is home safe and I’m sure he is very proud of himself after making us work so hard to catch him. LIL JERK.

On the bright side, it gave me a great opportunity to take some photos, check him over, and show you all some close up pictures of this speedy little escape artist.

If you would like to help spoil our animals, I have an Amazon wish list with some of the supplies and goodies they currently need. Please do not feel obligated at all. Every bit of support is deeply appreciated!
